RideCut logo: a rider mid-jump against a sunsetRideCut

A folder of ride footage in. One highlight movie out.

RideCut reads a day of GoPro, phone and drone files, finds the moments worth keeping and renders one short movie. A desktop app for Windows and Mac, free to use.

The ride strip

What a day of footage looks like once it is read

Each lane is one camera. The bars are the files it recorded over the day. The amber marks are the moments Analyze chose for the cut, from whichever camera was pointing the right way at the time.

How it works

Three steps, start to finish
  1. 01

    Open the folder

Point RideCut at the folder a ride left behind: any mix of GoPro, phone, camera and drone files. Subfolders are scanned. Nothing in the folder is changed.

  2. 02

    Analyze

Every file is read for motion, GPS and the GoPro's sensors to find the moments worth keeping. It runs on your computer and works offline.

  3. 03

    Review and render

Check the cut on a timeline with one lane per camera. Swap or trim clips, set a target length, then render one movie in landscape or portrait, up to 4K.

On the video

Speed, altitude, climb angle and a mini-map can be drawn on the movie. They come from the GoPro's GPS, or from a GPX track recorded on a phone or watch if the camera did not keep one.

Rating with Claude

Optionally, Claude looks at a contact sheet of each moment, four frames on one image, and rates it. The cut gets better for it.

Why it exists

A day on the forest and mountain tracks of northern Thailand leaves hours of footage across several cameras, and most of it never gets watched. RideCut is my answer to that.

Free for Windows and Mac

Windows 10 and 11, macOS 12 or later. No account needed.
